The Burke Council on Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency, Inc. was organized in 1966 to assist in the alleviation of human suffering borne by those afflicted with alcoholism and chemical dependency and the suffering of family and friends. | |

The council is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of volunteers concerned about Burke County. | |

The Burke Council on Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency, Inc. is a private, non-profit volunteer organization. The council believes alcoholism and chemical dependency are treatable diseases. It focuses its efforts on education, prevention, and rehabilitation in field of alcoholism and chemical dependency. We provide the following programs and services. |
1. Student Assistance Program (SAP) in middle and senior high schools. The purpose is to help students develop a positive self-image, as well as learning positive coping and decision-making skills.
2. Employee Support Services
3. SCIP-School Intervention Program
4. Assistance in intervention to help get identified into treatment
5. Aftercare follow-up and support
6. Individual, family and/or group counseling
7. Assessment interviews and referrals
8. Prevention/education programs for the community relating to alcohol and drug issues.
9. Telephone crisis counseling
10. Free literature and information on self-help groups
11. A film and book library
12. Presentations to civic organizations, churches and other interested groups
13. Provide education and counseling to expectant mothers at the Burke County Health Department regarding the dangers of alcohol/drug use/abuse during pregnancy.
